To my eyes as a republican Briton, whose unwelcome monarch as head of state, has been a woman, the Queen, and whose Prime Minister for 10 years was a woman, (whom I hated as I’m left-wing socialist and Thatcher a conservative) – but never have I questioned them being female as a “big deal”.
Why did Americans choose the light-weight Bush as President and the towering intellect of Rice as only Secretary of State? Sex? Colour? There must be a reason.
