For those wondering where the hostages in Iran-Contra came from: These were hostages taken by Hezbollah in the mid-80s, not those taken in Iran during the revolution; the latter were, as others have stated, freed on 20 Jan, 1981 after negotiations by the Carter Administration.
I have been a registered Republican for forty years but I joined the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Ike. That party was HIJACKED by the fascist NEOCONS right after Nixon. Ike was the last good Republican president. The fascist had been looking to find a vehicle for their corporate socialist ideas ever since JP Morgan and Prescott BUSH tried to stop the reforms of the early 20th century. A populist period of fair labor practices, consumer safety and reasonable government regulation.

Read “War is a Racket” by Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler who was the most decorated American serviceman in US history, fought in FIVE wars and served 34 years in the Marines, was awarded the Marine Brevet Medal and TWO Congressional Medals of Honor.

Just to let you know, here’s what happened. In January 1988, CBS was doing profiles of each candidate. Bush was last. Rather offered to do it by himself, but Bush insisted on a live interview. On the weekend before the interview, CBS began framing the story as ‘Bush talks about Iran-Contra.’ Bush got ticked, and rumors abounded that CBS was going to wipe out Bush like Roger Mudd did Ted Kennedy in 1979. So Bush went on live and popped Rather with a reference to Rather’s walkoff from 9/87.
